Make It Safe First, Then Put It Right

An emergency plastering job usually starts with something that is no longer safe or no longer usable: a ceiling that is sagging or has partly come down, a wall that has been soaked, or plaster that has let go and is falling away in sheets.

The first job is making the area safe and taking off anything that is going to come down anyway. The second is finding out whether the cause has actually been dealt with. Only then does the repair itself start, because plastering over an unresolved leak is money thrown away.

Our Emergency Repair Process

Urgent work still has an order to it. Skipping steps is what turns a repair into a repeat visit.
Step 1

Make Safe & Assess

The area is protected and anything loose or likely to fall is taken down. The extent of the damage is checked, along with whether the cause has been dealt with, before any repair is priced.
Step 2

Cut Back & Rebuild

Damaged material is cut back to a sound edge rather than feathered over. The area is re-boarded or built back up in coats, with tape and mesh where the repair crosses a joint or a crack.
Step 3

Finish & Clean-Up

The repair is brought level with the surrounding surface and finished so the patch does not read through paint. Debris is bagged and taken away and the room swept before we leave.

The rest of the ceiling gets checked, not just the hole. Anything that has lost its fixing comes down before new board goes up.

Wall Soaked After a Leak?

The wall has to be dry before it is closed up. We will tell you if it needs longer rather than plastering over a wet background.

Plaster Falling Off in Sheets?

Loose material is taken back to a sound edge so the repair has something solid to key into.

Hole in a Wall or Ceiling?

Impact damage is cut square, backed, filled and finished so the patch does not show through decoration.

Property Needs Handing Over?

Where a tenant, buyer or decorator is due, repairs can be prioritised to get the room back into a usable state.

How quickly can you get to me?
It depends on what is already booked in and where you are. Call and describe the damage and we will tell you honestly when we could attend rather than promise a time we cannot keep.
Keep out of the room and keep others out, particularly children and pets. If you can safely do so, turn off anything electrical feeding that ceiling and put a container under any drip. Do not push or prod the bulge.
Yes. Plastering over a wall or ceiling that is still getting wet will fail. The source needs stopping first, whether that is a plumber, a roofer or the flat above.
Longer than most people expect, and it varies with how much water got in and how well the room is ventilated. Closing it up too early is the single most common reason a repair fails.
Yes. We hold an NVQ Level 2 in Plastering and a CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card. Both can be shown on request.
We can provide a written, itemised quotation and photographs of the damage and the completed work. Whether your policy covers it is between you and your insurer.
A patch is finished level and blended so it does not read through paint. Where a ceiling or wall has an existing texture, an exact match is not always achievable and we will tell you that before starting.
