What dry lining is

A Flat, Level Base Before Any Finish Goes On

Dry lining means fixing plasterboard to a wall or ceiling rather than plastering directly onto the background. The boards are fixed either with adhesive dabs onto masonry or screwed to a timber or metal framework.

 

It is generally quicker and cleaner than traditional wet plastering. It can conceal uneven masonry and create a flat surface for finishing. Once boarded, the surface can either be skimmed or taped and jointed depending on the finish you want.

New ceilings boarded out, including replacing failed or damaged ceilings once the old material is removed.

Overboarding Existing Surfaces

Boarding straight over Artex or tired plaster where stripping back would create unnecessary mess.

Tape & Joint Finishing

Joints taped, filled and sanded to a paint-ready finish where a full skim is not required.

Moisture Resistant Boarding

Moisture resistant board specified for bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas where it is appropriate.

Our Plasterboard Process

A boarded wall is only as good as its setting out and its fixings. This is the order followed on every job.
Step 1

Set Out & Protect

Floors are sheeted and the area cleared, then the run is set out so boards land in sensible positions and joints are kept to a minimum. Services and fixing points are noted before anything goes up.
Step 2

Board & Fix

Boards are measured, cut, positioned and securely fixed, either dabbed to masonry and levelled or screwed to framework at correct centres. Openings for sockets and switches are accurately cut during installation.

Step 3

Finish & Clean-Up

Joints are taped and filled, or the surface is prepared for skimming, depending on the finish agreed. The site is then cleared down and the offcuts and waste taken away.

Uneven or Bowed Masonry?

Dot and dab lets the boards be levelled independently of the wall behind, giving you a flat face without building out the whole surface in plaster.

Old Lath & Plaster Ceiling?

Where an old ceiling has failed, it is taken down and re-boarded properly rather than propped up or patched from below.

Heavy Artex You Do Not Want Disturbed?

Overboarding covers the surface without scraping it back, which keeps the mess and disruption down.

Sagging or Cracked Ceilings?

Boards that have pulled away from their fixings are removed and replaced, with fixings set at correct centres so it does not happen again.

Need to Split a Room?

Studwork is built and boarded to create a new wall, set out square and plumb so the finished partition looks original.

Sockets and Switches in the Wrong Place?

Cut-outs are planned into the boarding rather than hacked in afterwards, which keeps the finished face clean around fittings.

Plasterboard FAQ

Should I skim the boards or tape and joint them?
A full skim gives a seamless surface across the whole wall and is the usual choice in a home. Taping and jointing finishes the joints only and is quicker, and it suits areas where a slightly less uniform surface is acceptable. We can quote either.
Yes. We hold an NVQ Level 2 in Plastering and a CSCS Blue Skilled Worker Card. Both can be shown on request.
Adhesive is applied to the back of the board in dabs, the board is offered up to the masonry and then levelled and pushed into position. It is a fast way of getting a flat wall over uneven brick or block.
In most cases, yes. Overboarding covers the artex without scraping it back, which keeps disruption down. The fixings need to reach the joists above, so the ceiling is checked first.
Dot and dab adds a small amount of thickness to each wall. Studwork partitions take up more. Exact build-up is confirmed at survey stage so you know what to expect.
Yes. Moisture resistant board is specified for bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas where it is appropriate for the situation.
Yes, but the fixing has to reach either the masonry behind or a stud. Tell us where heavy items are going at survey stage and noggins or pattress boards can be built in.
